MONTHLY WRAP-UP: September 2014

FAIR TO MIDLAND: Artist of the Month

FAIR TO MIDLAND: Artist of the Month

Well, September 2014 is coming to a close and Replicant Ears Magazine celebrates being in business for a third of a year! That’s four months worth of reporting on foward-thinking awesomeness that you, the readers, have helped make possible! As most of you know, on the last publication day of every month, Replicant Ears issues a wrap-up article which runs through everything that was published that month, declares the Artist of the Month (which is selected based on site statistics), a song (via YouTube or other means) from said artist, and perhaps other surprises as the publication grows.

This month has proved to be a very busy month for new music, and we ended it all with a flashback to Fair To Midland, a band quite possibly on permanent hiatus. The article was so popular, the band made Artist of the Month, proving that they still have a massive and loving following! How about patching things up, gents? Worth a shot… While our Editor-in-Chief, Ryan Smith, has taken a couple of weeks off, Replicant Ears will return next week to bring the publication into October. Once there, we will bring you reviews on 3 new full-length albums, some great new single releases, and some more of the features you’ve come to love (the flashbacks, Back in 5, and the ever-popular top five!). There might even be a Halloween surprise in store for you as well!

Thanks again to our regular readers, and everyone who has checked out the mag, shared, liked, favourited, retweeted, etc. Your support means everything! Please continue to spread the word while we continue to present you with heaps of the forward-thinking goodness you deserve.

SEPTEMBER 1 // FLASHBACK: Badger – One Live Badger

"... one of the greats of the time, and a powerful example of how markedly different prog can be even when conforming to a familiar sound. One Live Badger is to soul what In the Court of the Crimson King is to jazz."

SEPTEMBER 3 // TOP FIVE: 20-Minute Tunes

"The 1970’s are well known for their bombastic brand of progressive rock, and it was then, in the genre’s prime, that the most epic side-long tunes were written and recorded. Here are five of the most wonderful 20 minute adventures ever released."

SEPTEMBER 5 // NEW MUSIC: The Rooks – Twister [Video]

"... this song’s great strength ... is that it uses good old fashioned feeling and subtle seasonings ... instead of going all out with grabby hooks, to capture its audience."

SEPTEMBER 11 // NEW MUSIC: Cloud Seeding – Mirage (ft. Alexa Wilding) [Single]

"The video, while decidedly minimalist, compliments the sound perfectly, lending the stunning atmosphere new dimension, and allowing sound and picture to engage briefly in demure conversation."

SEPTEMBER 15 // NEW MUSIC: Fleeting Smile – Gwailo

"Citing such talents as Brian Eno and Laurie Anderson as influences, and including very upbeat, dance friendly electronic tunes with mainstream song structures, Fleeting Smile has built Gwailo to be accessible to both mainstream listeners and forward-thinkers alike."
